Edgar was founded in May 2000 as an extension of its sister company Elnika that had itself been founded in December 1992. At first, Elnika exclusively devoted itself to the manufacture of OEM. After that the company started development of its own products. The first one produced was the valve integrated Edgar TP101amplifier. The debut of the prototype of this product took place in April 1995 in Brno (Czech Republic).

The major objective of Edgar is the development and manufacture of high performance audio components but with high value too. All products are subject to listening tests as well as measuring tests. The quality of all the amplifiers are checked by testing with an Audio Precision Portable One More Access analogue test device.
